Jupiter Engineering Ltd is a UK building services consultancy founded in 2023, specialising in heat decarbonisation retrofit. 47 projects, £18.4m of project value, two directors who do the engineering themselves.

What we are for
Decarbonising heat in existing buildings is harder than the policy documents suggest. The buildings are old, the distribution was designed for 80 °C flow, the electrical supply is close to capacity, the plantroom is full, and the budget was set before anyone surveyed anything. Now the grant funding has gone too. That is the work.
We started Jupiter to do it properly — engineering-led, practical, responsive to what each project actually is. Straight answers about what is achievable, coordinated and buildable designs, and evidence afterwards about whether it delivered. Where a scheme does not stack up we say so early, while it is still cheap to change course.

Director — mechanical & decarbonisation

A chartered building services professional with nearly 20 years in design roles, twelve of those in design management. Jon leads mechanical design and decarbonisation: feasibility, heat pump design and the technical content behind funded schemes.
He worked at a heat pump manufacturer before moving into consultancy, which is where the practice's depth in refrigerant selection, cascade systems and real-world heat pump behaviour comes from. As a Certified Measurement & Verification Professional he sets the methodology behind Jupiter Performance, and writes most of our insights.

Alex Ramsden
Director — electrical engineering
Alex has worked across the full range of building services roles, from hands-on installation through project management, financial oversight and senior leadership to design. International experience across differing regulatory environments has produced a deep and adaptable skillset in electrical systems.
He leads electrical design across the practice — power distribution, supply capacity and DNO engagement, lighting, photovoltaics and integration with the wider design. On heat pump retrofit electrical capacity is usually the binding constraint, which is why electrical sits alongside mechanical here rather than being subcontracted out.

Three commitments
Say it early
If a site will not support the scheme being proposed, that is a feasibility-stage conversation. Finding out during construction costs an order of magnitude more and damages the case for the next project.
Design for the operator
The people who inherit the building are rarely in the room during design. Controls that can be understood, plant that can be maintained, documentation that reflects what was installed.
Check the claim
Where a performance claim can be measured, we measure it. That is the premise of Jupiter Performance, and it is why our advice tends to be more conservative than a supplier's.

How big is Jupiter Engineering?
A small specialist practice with two directors. That is deliberate — the directors do the engineering rather than delegating it, and you deal with the people who did the work. Where a project needs more capacity we bring in trusted associates rather than diluting the team.
When was it founded?
2023. The directors between them bring over 30 years of experience across all aspects of M&E engineering, in consultancy, contracting and heat pump manufacturing.
How many projects have you delivered?
47 since founding, across education, leisure, retail, civic, heritage, healthcare and industrial buildings — representing £18.4m of project value and £15.1m of grant funding secured for clients.

Are you ISO certified?
ISO 9001:2015 certification is in progress with BSI — Stage 1 and Stage 2 audits are complete and we are working through the closing actions. We are not yet certified and will not claim to be until we are.
